FUE scar repair usually refers to using follicular unit extraction to fill in a scar that results from a FUSS (follicular unit strip surgery) but it can also mean filling scars from other types of problems. I touched on this in another blog post where I discuss burn scars. Today however, in my latest Hair Transplant Documentary Series and my visit to Medikemos Hair Restoration in Brussels, Dr. Lupanzula mentions how he regularly works on strip scars by filling them with hair using his manual, hand held manual FUE approach. I incorporate one of his results on video into this episode so you can see just how good Dr. Lupanzula is with scar repair and FUE into donor scar cases.
In this episode I also speak with Dr. Lupanzula about one of the things that really stood out to me while I was in his clinic and that was the amount of care and attention that each patient can expect during their visit. Dr. Lupanzula has a unique approach to patient care that not only makes sense, it seems natural and organic when you know that the staff and doctor really care about their patients. I mentioned in a previous episode that Dr. Lupanzula created a “quiet room” for patients to relax in when he was designing the interior of his clinic. This room is nearly sound proof and allows patients to get away from the rest of the clinic and relax in peace and solitude. There really is something to be said about being able to relax in a recliner chair in near absolute silence.
Finally, Dr. Lupanzula and I discuss how he and the staff makes sure that every patient is not left alone during their lunch break and that they are encouraged to join the entire team and Dr. Lupanzula in the common break room for their lunch break. This gives the patient the opportunity to learn about the technicians that are working on his/her case and a sense of camaraderie is established. This helps the patient to really see just how much the staff cares about doing the best job they can and that they want the patient to have the most enjoyable experience possible. I know this may not seem like a big deal but when patients fly from half way around the world to have a hair transplant they are nervous enough as it is. The entire staff at Medikemos do everything they can to reduce the anxiety of being so far away from home to have what some would consider to be a scary procedure.
